You Are A Badass: Bbook of the Month

According To Bbooks | Seriously one of the best non-self-help self-help books EVER. I was so motivated and inspired after reading You Are A Badass. Click to read why I love it!

Introducing the first “series” on my blog…the Bbook of the Month with You Are A Badass! I figured I might as well take a play on my name and run with it, right?? I’ll be sharing my favorite book each month, whether fiction or nonfiction (who knows, maybe I’ll sprinkle in a magazine here & there).

After the new year, I found myself needing a sort of confidence boost to get me motivated. Several of my friends had read the New York Times bestseller, You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero, and couldn’t stop raving about it so I finally caved and bought it. I’m normally not one to purchase “self-help” type books, but this one seemed different! Let me know what you guys think 🙂

The Low Down

Jen Sincero basically uses the book to help convince you of how awesome you truly are. Whether that means disregarding others’ opinions, finding yourself spiritually, or discovering and embracing your passion, she proves how changing your attitude to look for the best in each situation will make you happier and will present you with better opportunities in life.

Who Is It For?

Anyone who’s going through a rough patch, whether it be creatively, professionally, or personally. This book gives you the tools to rebuild your confidence and set you on the track to kick-butt at life.

The “G” Word

I’m not a very religious person, and in Chapter 2 she talks all about “The G Word” (AKA God). When I started reading the chapter, I thought “Oh no, what have I gotten myself into…” thinking that the chapter was going to attempt to convince me to go to church or something lol.

But Sincero basically explains the need for believing in something larger than ourselves – that we are all “connected to this limitless power and most of us aren’t using but a fraction of it”. Whether that “limitless power” is God, The Universe, The Vortex, Spirit, Source Energy, etc.– you should love it because it will love you back and present you with more opportunities.

Seriously one of the best non-self-help self-help books EVER.

Just Do It

Not to be all Nike on you, but I’ve been trying to start my personal blog since OCTOBER and for some dang reason I couldn’t  seem to get it out in the public for the life of me. There was a chapter all about letting your beginner live alongside your expert (Chapter 12), and that finally got me out of my funk.

If you’ve found something you love doing, when you’re a beginner at it, you find every part of it fascinating and can’t wait to learn more. But as you enter the “expert” phase of that hobby or job or whatever it is, “you become overly critical and hard on yourself and don’t let yourself have nearly as much fun anymore” (107). STORY OF MY LIFE! I work all day at Bloguettes and see all these amazing bloggers doing their thang and I’m afraid to let loose and do it too.

Remember: “As you enter the ‘expert’ phase of your hobby, job, or whatever it is, you become overly critical and hard on yourself and don’t let yourself have nearly as much fun anymore.”

Fave Quote

“Stop talking about how busy you are. Focus on what you enjoy about what you do and the spaces in between the doing instead of feeling weighed down by it all. Decide that you live an awesome, relaxed life full of interesting projects that you love doing and communicate that to the world and yourself. And then go out and merrily do it.” (pg. 161)

Moving Along…

This book has definitely changed my attitude and my perspective towards achieving my goals. It also has also helped me to manage stress levels! I’m now much more conscious about taking time out of my day to breathe and be thankful.
